Esta dissertação apresenta uma investigação acerca do desenvolvimento do ethos de erudição de Aulo Gélio, cuja obra Noctes Atticae (Noites Áticas) data do séc. II d. C. Para tanto, analisamos excertos em que o autor engendra uma delimitação do que julga como modelo de erudito. Essa demarcação se dá por meio de uma argumentação fundamentada em outros autores referenciais e reflexões advindas de um percurso de formação intelectual, ao longo da estadia de seu redator em território ático. Assim, ao passo que uma caracterização do ideal é encetada, Gélio se submete aos parâmetros por ele apresentados e inicia um processo de elaboração de um comportamento discursivo que está alinhado com aquilo que representam os seus moldes de homem culto, erudito. A construção retórica que resulta em uma persona discursiva difundida no texto é o nosso objeto de estudo. Averiguamos diversos trechos, para demostrar como se apresentam as manifestações de uma imagem estabelecida com intuito discursivo da parte de seu orador. Esses eventos estão dispostos ao longo dos 398 capítulos da obra, vindo agora à luz para serem elucidados por nós neste trabalho.
