Die Medienindustrie ist aufgrund ihrer strukturellen Besonderheiten prädestiniert für die Anwendung der Institutionenökonomik, dennoch gibt es bisweilen nur wenige fundierte Analysen. Der Beitrag versucht die institutionenökonomische Lücke zu verkleinern, indem er das Produktionsnetzwerk der TV-Auftragsproduktion analysiert und die Beziehung zwischen Rundfunkanstalt und Produktionsfirma als Prinzipal-Agent-Beziehung modelliert. Er zeigt die Agency-Probleme auf, stellt potenzielle Institutionen zu ihrer Minderung vor und analysiert das im deutschen TV-Input-Markt vorliegende Institutionengefüge. Auch die Auswirkungen der bestehenden Institutionen auf die Innovation von Fernsehinhalten werden problematisiert. Der Beitrag schließt unter Verweis auf die aktuelle Terms of Trade-Debatte und begründet, weshalb sich die produzentenseitig geforderten Institutionen bisher nicht durchsetzen konnten.
