Objectives:To investigate the effect of generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAP), generalized chronic periodontitis (GCP) and gingivitis (G) on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) with Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaires. Methods:One hundred GAP patients, 114 GCP and 109 G patients were included in the study. Age, gender, number of missing teeth, probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), plaque index (PI) and clinical attachment level (CAL) of patients were recorded. The Turkish versions of OHIP-14 and SF-36 questionnaires were filled before any medication and dental treatment were approved. The one-way ANOVA test was used to compare three groups.Results: Generalized aggressive periodontitis and GCP groups were similar to each other (P > 0.05) in most subscales except functional limitation and social disability of the OHIP-14 questionnaire (P = 0.034 and P = 0.018, respectively); conversely, there was no statistically difference between GAP and G groups in functional limitation and social disability subscales (P = 0.856 and P = 0.242, respectively). GAP group gave higher scores than GCP group in all subscales of SF-36 (P < 0.05). There was a negative correlation between OHIP-14 and SF-36 subscale scores in all groups. Conclusion:Study findings indicate that different forms of periodontal disease have different effects on quality of life of patients when measured by OHIP-14 and SF-36.Patients with GCP and GAP had poorer OHRQoL than G patients. İmplant uzunluklarının ve tasarımının implant primer stabilite üzerine etkilerinin rezonans frekans analizi kullanılarak değerlendirilmesi: İn vitro bir çalışma Amaç: Primer stabilite (PS), implantın uzunluğuna ve çapına, implant yüzeyinin mikro morfolojisine, implant tasarımına, cerrahi prosedüre, kemik miktarına ve kalitesine bağlıdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, çok kısa, kısa ve standard dental implantları Tip IV kemikte primer stabilitelerine göre Rezonans Frekans Analizi (RFA) test ekipmanı kullanarak karşılaştırmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Yetmiş iki dental implant; Large grit kumlanmış ve asitlenmiş (sandblasting with large grit particles and acid etching, SLA) (Dentium®, SimpleLine II, Seul, Kore), SLActive yüzey-(Straumann Roxolid®, Basel, İsviçre), Resorbable blast media (RBM) yüzey-(Implance®, Trabzon, Türkiye) çok kısa (4 mm uzunluğunda), kısa (6 mm uzunluğunda) ve standard dental implantlar (10 mm uzunluğunda) insan tip IV kemiğine benzer kemik kalitesine sahip sığır türü kaburgaya yerleştirildi. Grupları karşılaştırmak için tek yönlü ANOVA testi kullanıldı ve farklı gruplar post hoc Tukey testi ile değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Dört ve 6 mm uzunluktaki implantların İmplant Stabilite Katsayısı (Implant stability quotient, ISQ) ölçümleri benzerdi, ancak 10 mm uzunluktaki implantlarda gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark gözlendi. On mm uzunluğundaki implant grubunda SLActive yüzey en yüksek ISQ değerini gösterdi (p<0.005). Primer stabilite grup içinde karşılaştırıldığında, SLA yüzey ve RBM yüzey implantlarda önemli bir fark gözlenmezken 10 mm uzunluktaki SLActive yüzey implantı 4 ve 6 mm uzunluğundan daha yüksek ISQ değerine sahip bulundu (p<0.005). Sonuç: İmplant tasarımı ve yüzey özellikleri de çok kısa ve kısa implantlarda primer stabilitede etkili olabilir ve SLActive yüzey implantları, standart implantlarda daha iyi primer stabilite gösterebilir. Background : In recent years studies have concluded that peri-implant soft tissue thickness and keratinized tissue have been associated with health of periodontal tissues and clinical parameters. Initial tissue thickness influences crestal bone changes around implants. It is generally accepted that a thin tissue biotype is associated with an increased risk for unfavorable treatment outcomes following surgical interventions Aim/Hypothesis : The aim of this study is to decrease the crestal bone resorption around the implant site by increasing the thickness of the gingiva with T-PRF (titanium prepared platelet-rich fibrin) or CTG (connective tissue graft), and to compare the efficacy of the two techniques.Material and Methods : A total of 30 implants were placed in 30 patients (12 males and 18 females, with mean age of 38.4 years) with simultaneous augmentation of the soft tissue by the use of a T-PRF or CTG. The patients were randomly divided into two groups; I. Test group: implants placed in thin tissues and thickened with T-PRF membrane simultaneously with implant placement, II. Control group: implants placed in thin tissues and thickened with connective tissue graft simultaneously with implant placement. Soft tissue thickness was measured with endodontic spreader and digital caliber from three points; 1) occlusal part of crest (CREST), 2) midbuccal of mucosa (MBM), 3) over 1 mm of mucogingival junction (OMGJ). Keratinized tissue height (KTH), as the distance between the healing abutment and the mucogingival junction was also recorded at the time of surgery (T0) and 3 months postoperatively (T1).Results : In the CTG and T-PRF group, there was a significant increase in KTH ( P < 0.001) and in the thickness of gingiva at the level of CREST ( P < 0.001), MBM ( P < 0.001) and OMGJ ( P = 0.026, P < 0.001) between T0 and T1. When the change in time-related soft tissue thickness was compared between the groups, there was no significant difference in KTH between the T-PRF and BDG group ( P = 0.189). In the CTG group, significantly more soft tissue thickness increased in CREST ( P = 0.040), MBM ( P = 0.025), OMGJ ( P = 0.041) levels compared to the T-PRF group. Conclusion and Clinical Implications: Within the limitations of this study, it could be concluded that the T-PRF used in conjunction with simultaneously implant placement leads to an increased thickness of peri-implant soft tissue and could be an alternative to connective tissue graft.
