Experimental results are reported which show strong evidence that the Belousov–Zhabotinskii reaction proceeds in an intrinsic chaotic (sustained time-dependent, nonperiodic) manner over a range of residence times in a continuous-flow stirred reactor. Outside of that range the experimental states reach a sustained periodic condition in some cases and a stable steady nonperiodic condition in others. A suggested theoretical basis for the observed behavior is discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
