The evolution of electronic (spin and charge) excitations upon carrier doping is an extremely important issue in superconducting layered cuprates and the knowledge of its asymmetry between electron-and hole-dopings is still fragmentary. Here we combine X-ray and neutron inelastic scattering measurements to track the doping dependence of both spin and charge excitations in electron-doped materials. Copper L 3 resonant inelastic X-ray scattering spectra show that magnetic excitations shift to higher energy upon doping. Their dispersion becomes steeper near the magnetic zone centre and they deeply mix with charge excitations, indicating that electrons acquire a highly itinerant character in the doped metallic state. Moreover, above the magnetic excitations, an additional dispersing feature is observed near the G-point, and we ascribe it to particle-hole charge excitations. These properties are in stark contrast with the more localized spin excitations (paramagnons) recently observed in hole-doped compounds even at high doping levels.

Twelve high schools in Japan (of which six are in Fukushima Prefecture), four in France, eight in Poland and two in Belarus cooperated in the measurement and comparison of individual external doses in 2014. In total 216 high-school students and teachers participated in the study. Each participant wore an electronic personal dosimeter 'D-shuttle' for two weeks, and kept a journal of his/her whereabouts and activities. The distributions of annual external doses estimated for each region overlap with each other, demonstrating that the personal external individual doses in locations where residence is currently allowed in Fukushima Prefecture and in Belarus are well within the range of estimated annual doses due to the terrestrial background radiation level of other regions/countries.
A 72-year-old woman with cirrhosis of the liver was treated repeatedly by transcatheter arterial embolization for multifocal hepatocellular carcinomas. She developed gastrointestinal bleeding secondary to direct invasion of the wall of the transverse colon. The diagnosis was made pre-operatively by colonoscopy and the patient was treated successfully. This rare complication of hepatocellular carcinoma was due to the protrusive type of growth exhibited by this tumour and may have been affected by the transcatheter arterial embolization.
It is generally difficult to measure the particle motion inside of dense granular flows or fluid‐particle flows. In the present paper, an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) technique is employed to measure the granular motion inside a rotating horizontal drum. A horizontal drum is half‐filled with a mixture of two different sizes of spherical particles, and is steadily rotated along its axis. A typical radial segregation phenomenon, i.e., smaller particles concentrate to the central part and larger particles distribute in the peripheral part, was observed in vertical cross sections. When a tapered drum was used, in addition to the radial segregation, an axial segregation was also observed. The effect of the inclination angle of the drum wall on the segregation phenomena was studied. Furthermore the effect of the rotational speed on the axial segregation phenomena was also studied.
