We assessed and compared the prognosis of hemiplegic gait and regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in patient with acute cortical and subcortical carotid infarct. We studied 27 patients with hemiplegic gait due to only one ischemic lesion over 5cm in diameter on brain computed tomography within 48 hours after onset. 1231-N-isopropyliodoamphetamine single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) was applied within 1 week, during 10-14 days, and in 4-5 weeks after onset. Twenty one patients were able to walk without assistance before discharge (good prognosis group, GPG), but 6 patients were not (poor prognosis group, PPG). SPECT in PPG showed significantly lower rCBF in not only the lesion side but the no-lesion side of cerebral cortex and hemisphere within 1 week and in 4-5 weeks, and in the lesion side of thalamus within 1 week after onset. No definite rCBF change in 3 tines SPECT was found in GPG and PPG. We conclude that rCBF within 1 week after onset are conducive to prediction of prognosis of hemiplegic gait in patient with acute cortical and subcortical carotid infarct. (Jpn J
Autonomous Undcrwater Vehicles are valuable plattbrm for the oceanographic survcy . To develop the software of AUVs , it is important to use testbed vehicle to perfbrm expcrimental development , because the computer simulation is not reliable to the influence of complex flows around the vehicle and unknown obstacles . This paper describes the design of a small testbed AUV " KOLABOT ' l for software development . By using plastic matcrials the vehicle is light weight and easily rcconfigured . Results ofthe Zigzag tests in a test tank have validated the system performance .
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
