O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos de um procedimento de marcação de elementos de conjuntos sobre o desempenho em tarefas de contagem, de nomeação e de discriminação condicional que envolvem contagem. No Experimento 1, oito estudantes do terceiro ano do Ensino Fundamental participaram de sessões individualizadas com a aplicação de um teste de contagem com pequenos cubos de madeira e de 13 testes para avaliação de repertórios pré-aritméticos em cadernos impressos. Esses testes avaliaram repertórios de contagem de elementos de conjuntos, nomeação de número e discriminações condicionais (número e número, numeral (auditivo) e número, etc.). Os testes com conjuntos de figuras foram aplicados sem marcação de elementos e com marcação com uso de lápis (riscar o elemento contado). O Experimento 2 foi uma replicação do Experimento 1 com novos oito participantes. No Experimento 2 foi solicitado aos participantes que não apontassem para os elementos dos conjuntos enquanto contavam. Em ambos os experimentos, os testes exclusivamente com números apresentaram altos índices de acerto. Nas tarefas com conjuntos, registrou-se mais erros no procedimento sem marcação dos elementos dos conjuntos do que no procedimento com marcação dos elementos dos conjuntos. Esses resultados sugerem que testes de discriminações condicionais que envolvam contagem devem contemplar controles específicos para o comportamento de contar, evitando erros como, por exemplo, duplicação ou omissão da contagem de elementos.Palavras-chave: ensino-aprendizagem de Matemática; habilidades pré-aritméticas; contagem; discriminações condicionais; estudantes do ensino fundamental.
