Este trabalho teve como objetivo estimar a posição geográfica e a altura individual de árvores em plantios de eucalipto de modo automatizado por meio de processamento computacional. Os dados utilizados nesta pesquisa foram obtidos com o sistema Airborne Laser Scanner (ALS) e permitiram gerar um modelo digital de vegetação normalizado (MDVn) que representa a biomassa da superfície. Nesse modelo, aplicou-se uma metodologia de geoprocessamento que permitiu analisar o modelo da biomassa, determinando-se o topo de cada árvore e sua altura. Para validar os resultados, utilizaram-se ortofotos de melhor resolução espacial disponível, obtendo-se 93% de precisão média nos cálculos. Na comparação dos dados de alturas médias estimadas das 100 maiores árvores por meio da tecnologia LIDAR e das mesmas alturas obtidas por meio do inventário florestal, o coeficiente de determinação R² foi de 0,8826. Os resultados indicaram que a metodologia utilizada apresenta precisão adequada para a identificação de indivíduos e para a estimativa de altura das árvores, oferecendo viabilidade de replicação da metodologia para outros tipos de vegetação similares.
O presente artigo objetiva apresentar a simulação de cenários de expansão urbana para o município de Mateus Leme, pertencente à Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte. A simulação apresenta-se como um complemento importante à metodologia utilizada pela equipe técnica do município, que realizou em 2014 um abrangente estudo para o mapeamento e análise de áreas potenciais para expansão urbana, com vistas a aprovação do Projeto Específico de Expansão Urbana de Mateus Leme. Tal estudo baseou-se na álgebra de mapas sem explorar a elaboração de cenários, que promoveria uma maior discussão e daria aos resultados mais robusteza. Estes cenários, baseados em padrões identificados historicamente, não representariam um fato futuro, mas possibilitaria definir estratégias e indicar políticas públicas para potencializar ou inibir as tendências da urbanização. Portanto, o objetivou-se simular a expansão da mancha urbana do município de Mateus Leme para o ano de 2024, ano em que o último perímetro urbano aprovado por lei municipal, deverá ser revisto, além de destacar a importância das simulações como ferramenta de apoio ao planejamento urbano.
