Several 2,3-disubstituted glycidamides have been prepared by the epoxidation of the unsaturated amides by means of monoperphthalic acid. The glycidamides containing alkyl groups of two to four carbon atoms show a useful degree of hypnotic or sedative action. A number of other related compounds prepared in the course of the work were also screened but showed little if any depressant action.
