The synthesis of medium to large-membered cyclic silicon-butadiyne compounds (‘extended silapericyclynes’) was accomplished by the reaction of dilithiobutadiyne with dichlorodiisopropylsilane. The cyclic tetramer, pentamer, hexamer, and heptamer were obtained in 8%, 5%, 4%, and 2% yields, respectively. The structure of the tetramer was determined, and column-like packing was observed. The UV spectra of all compounds are also shown.
The new type of the twelve- to twenty-four-membered rings [(i-Pr)2Si(i-Pr)2SiC≡CC≡C]n (1, n = 2; 2, n = 3; 3, n = 4) were synthesized and the molecular structures of 1 and 2 were analyzed by X-ray crystallography. The compounds show unusual electronic properties due to the interaction of the C≡C π orbitals with the Si–Si σ bonds.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
