RESUMOAs inundações periódicas na Amazônia Central causam profundas modificações no meio ambiente. A alternância dos períodos de cheias e secas tem influência nos fatores bióticos e abióticos do meio aquático. Na enchente e na cheia é alta a oferta de alimentos, ampliando o espectro alimentar que é restrito na seca. As variáveis limnológicas também sofrem modificações. As concentrações de oxigênio têm variações sazonais e diárias, às vezes com períodos de hipoxia. Apesar dessas alterações, os lagos de várzea são habitados por muitas espécies de peixes e estão entre os ambientes de maior abundância e riqueza de peixes na Amazônia. A distribuição temporal e a alimentação de Triportheus angulatus (Spix & Agassiz, 1829) foi estudada em um lago de várzea da Amazônia Central para entender a influência das modificações hídricas sobre o tamanho dos indivíduos, a composição da dieta e a ingestão dos alimentos mesmo em condições de baixas concentrações de oxigênio. Na enchente predominam os indivíduos menores, enquanto que na cheia, vazante e seca os maiores. Houve mudança sazonal na composição da dieta que foi relacionada com a disponibilidade de alimentos no ambiente: na enchente os peixes ingerem principalmente insetos e zooplâncton; na cheia e vazante frutos e sementes, e na seca insetos. O consumo de alimento foi alto na enchente e cheia, decrescendo na vazante e atingindo as menores quantidades na seca. A atividade alimentar, no período estudado, não foi influenciada pelas baixas concentrações de oxigênio existentes no lago. The main objective of the study was to estimate the parameters of the length‐weight relationship for six small fish species of lower Negro River basin. The fish were sampled using monofilament gillnets (20 × 2 m, mesh size 5 mm between knots), and landing net for 2 days of each month in September and December 2017 and February, March and April 2018. The gillnets were placed in the river twice a day, in the morning (9–11 a.m.) and the afternoon (3–5 p.m.). Total length and total weight were measured to a precision of 0.1 cm and 0.01 g, respectively. The parameters a and b of the equation WT = a.LTb were estimated.

The igapó forests are used as shelter and feeding by several species of fish from the Amazon. In order to increase knowledge about the fish fauna and to infer their distributional pattern within the igapó forest, we sought to describe and compare the diversity and composition of the fish assemblages present in this habitat with the open water area of ​​the lakes and along the rise and fall of waters. Samplings were carried out in four lakes of the Anavilhanas National Park in the months of April and September of 2014, and February of 2015, by means of gillnets. In order to investigate the structure of the igapó and open water assemblages, the rarefaction curve and a Venn diagram and the diversity indices were used, the results of which were tested using the Student's t test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Subsequently, a perMANOVA test was applied to test the hypothesis of absence of spatial and seasonal effects on species composition. A total of 931 individuals were collected, distributed in 4 orders, 20 families, 48 ​​genera and 65 species. In the igapó forest, 650 individuals and 62 species were collected, and in the open water 281 individuals and 37 species. The igapó forest presented high richness, abundance, diversity and variability in the composition of the species between periods when compared to the open water of the lakes, moreover, the two habitats have quite different ichthyofaunistic compositions. Additionally, the absence of the effect of fluvial processes was seen on the igapó forest, demonstrated by a high homogeneity in the abundance of the individuals, species richness and biomass of this habitat. Thus, our study demonstrates the importance of the igapó forest in maintaining the abundance and diversity of the ichthyofauna present in black waters of Central Amazonia.

Understanding environmental biodiversity drivers in freshwater systems continues to be a fundamental challenge in studies of their fish assemblages. The present study seeks to determine the degree to which landscape variables of Amazonian floodplain lakes influences fish assemblages in these environments. Fish species richness was estimated in 15 Amazonian floodplain lakes during the high and low-water phases and correlated with the areas of four inundated wetland classes: (i) open water, (ii) flooded herbaceous, (iii) flooded shrubs and (iv) flooded forest estimated in different radius circular areas around each sampling site. Data were analyzed using generalized linear models with fish species richness, total and guilds as the dependent variable and estimates of buffered landscape areas as explanatory variables. Our analysis identified the significance of landscape variables in determining the diversity of fish assemblages in Amazonian floodplain lakes. Spatial scale was also identified as a significant determinant of fish diversity as landscape effects were more evident at larger spatial scales. In particular, (1) total species richness was more sensitive to variations in the landscape areas than number of species within guilds and (2) the spatial extent of the wetland class of shrubs was consistently the more influential on fish species diversity.

Length-weight relationship (LWR) can be used to estimate the weight or length of fish species when only one of these values is known. The measurement of these biometric data (weight and length) is routine in studies that monitor fauna and, according to Zuchi et al. (2020), these data are easily obtained.The Negro River is the second largest sub-basin of the Amazon basin (Goulding et al., 2003). In this sub-basin, currently 1,233 species are known (Jézéquel et al., 2020) to inhabit different environments such as rivers, lakes, flooded forests (igapós), beaches, intersecting river channels (paranás) and streams (igarapés) (Beltrão et al., 2019). Among these large number of rivers and other important environments, we highlight the Cuiuni River and the Anavilhanas National Park. The Cuiuni River is located the middle stretch of the Negro River basin, and is one of the largest southern tributaries of the Negro River (Montero & Latrubesse, 2013). According to Junk et al. (2015), this river drains the floodplains (várzea) and paleofloodplain (paleo-várzea) from the Japurá River, which is a tributary of the left bank of the Solimões/Amazonas River. While, the Anavilhanas National Park is a conservation unit, situated in the lower stretch of the Negro River basin (Amazonas state, Brazil). It is the second largest fluvial archipelago in the world and is constituted by approximately 400 islands (Almeida-Filho & Miranda, 2007). The lakes in the Anavilhanas National Park are separated by fluvial islands and connected by channels, and the lakes are typical of black water rivers and show the same general hydrological and limnological characteristics (Goulding et al., 1988).Therefore, because they have different characteristics, these environments allow diversification of fish species. ResumoAvaliamos a diversidade e a distribuição de espécies de peixes em dois habitats: floresta alagada e água aberta de lagos do rio Negro. Três amostragens foram realizadas em quatro lagos do Arquipélago de Anavilhanas, em 2009 e 2010. Em geral, a diversidade de espécies foi maior na floresta alagada e durante a noite. A análise de correspondência indicou que predadores estavam mais ativos a noite nos dois habitats. Onívoros, filtradores e detritívoros foram mais capturados durante o dia.
