The molecular alignment of an alkylthiophene, 3-n-octadecylthiophene, on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite has been studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Lateral stripes with a period of 0.42 nm and vertical stripes with one of 5.0 nm are observed and assigned to molecular alignments of alkyl chains and thiophene rings connected by “head to head", respectively. An STM image of N-n-octadecylpyrrole is also presented.
We find a nonsupersymmetric dilatonic deformation of AdS 5 geometry as an exact nonsingular solution of the type-IIB supergravity. The dual gauge theory has a different Yang-Mills coupling in each of the two halves of the boundary spacetime divided by a codimension one defect. We discuss the geometry of our solution in detail, emphasizing the structure of the boundary, and also study the string configurations corresponding to Wilson loops. We also show that the background is stable under small scalar perturbations.
A detailed syntheses of some fluorophenylaryl / heteroaryl ether derivatives 1a, b-4a, b have been described which was accomplished by using a variety of convenient phenolic coupling methods and subsequent Pd-C catalyzed hydrogenation of the coupled intermediates. The compounds synthesized are structurally similar to a number of anti-inflammatory agents.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
