Purpose: To assess the functional outcome of calcaneum fracture treated by minimally invasive xation technique. Methods: 30 patients of displaced intraarticular calcaneum fractures were treated with minimally invasive xation techniques in this prospective study after obtaining informed consent regarding the same and satisfying inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were then followed up at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. Functional outcomes were assessed using American association of foot and ankle score system (AOFAS) and Radiographs were also obtained on follow up and Bohler and Gissane angles were measured. Results: Out of 30 patients treated with minimally invasive xation techniques bony union occurred in all patients, functional outcome by American association of ankle and foot score (AOFAS) were 24 good, and 6 fair result. Radiographs showed restoration and maintainence of Bohler angle and Gissane angle in 28 patients at 6 months follow up. Conclusion: Minimally invasive technique for the treatment of intra articular fractures gives good to fair clinical outcome on short term follow up with very few complications. Restoration of Bohler and Gissane angle is correlated to good functional outcomes.
<p class="abstract"><strong>Background: </strong>The objective of the study was to assess clinical outcome and donor site morbidity of ACL reconstruction with peroneus longus tendon autografts in patients with ACL injury.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Methods:</strong> 60 Patients who underwent ACL reconstruction using peroneus longus autograft after fulfilling inclusion criteria and obtaining informed consent were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively and followed up for 1 year. Graft diameter was measured intraoperatively. Functional score of knee (Tegner and Lysholm Knee score) and American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Score (AOFAS) for donor site morbidity were recorded preoperatively and 1 year after surgery.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Results: </strong>93.3% Patients (56 out of 60) had good to excellent Lysholm knee score 1 year postoperatively and the mean AOFAS score was 96.7. The average peroneus longus graft diameter 8 .7mm.</p><p class="abstract"><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with peroneus longus autografts produces a good functional outcome at 1 year follow-up, with the advantages of large graft diameter and excellent ankle function based on AOFAS score.res.</p>
Purpose: To assess and compare the radiological and functional outcome of extra articular distal radius fractures treated by either Kapandji technique or extra-focal technique of K wire fixation. Method: From January 2018 to March 2020, 60 patients with extra articular distal radius fracture were included in this prospective study after obtaining informed consent regarding the same. Out of these 30 went under extra-focal technique and 30 went under Kapandji technique of K wire fixation. After surgery in both groups we immobilized the limb in below elbow cast for 5 weeks after which cast was removed and k-wires were removed. Radiographs were taken at 1 month, 3months and 6 months post operatively. All patients followed proper physiotherapy protocol after 5 weeks of surgery.
Purpose of study: To assess functional outcome in patients having unstable intertrochanteric fracture treated by Hemiarthroplasty as per harris hip score. Method: 25 cases of unstable intertrochanteric femur fracture were operated and followed up at Gcs Medical college, Hospital & Research Centre, establishing the following as Inclusion criteria: Patients more than 50 years of age with unstable intertrochanteric femur fracture(AO 31A-2.2 , AO 31A-2.3) presenting primarily or following failed osteosynthesis, who were ambulatory before fracture & Exclusion criteria: Patients who are medically unfit for anesthesia, stable fracture pattern, infection around hip, compound fracture, chronically debilitated and bed bound patient; with informed consent regarding procedure and study. Mean age of patients was 71.12 years. All patients are treated with hemiarthoplasty. Patients are followed up for a mean period of 6 months. Results: These patients were evaluated using the Harris hip scoring system. 22 out of 25 had excellent to good outcomes. Conclusion: Hemiarthoplasty offers good functional outcome and early weight bearing and mobilization.
Purpose: To assess the functional outcome of proximal humerus fracture treated with Proximal Humerus Internal Locking osteosynthesis (PHILOS) plating. Methods: Functional outcomes of 30 patients aged 30 to 75 (mean 57) years who underwent Philos plate xation for proximal humeral fractures were evaluated after taking informed consent about the study. Indications for surgery were 2-part, 3-part or 4-part closed proximal humeral fractures with angulation of more than 45 degrees or displacement of more than 1 cm. All patients satisfying the inclusion criteria were operated and followed up for 6 months .Functional outcomes and shoulder range of movement were assessed based on the Constant scoring system and was done at 6 months postoperatively. Result: Patients were followed up for 6 months. All fractures healed satisfactorily. No wound infections, vascular injuries, avascular necrosis, or loss of xation ensued. One patients with axillary nerve palsy recovered spontaneously within 3 months. Functional outcome was excellent in 11 patients, good in 15, and moderate in 4. The mean Constant score was 83(range 40–100). Conclusion: Proximal humerus fractures treated by Open Reduction and Internal Fixation by Philos plate have good functional results with low complication rates.
