ConClusions: The results of the survey clearly pointed out the high and still increasing importance of HSR and real-life studies also in the health care industry. Although a considerable amount of uncertainty concerning the specific methodological requirements remain it is widely accepted that the quality of data and analyses is crucial for acceptance by payers. As HSR projects require considerable human and financial resources alliances and joint projects between industry, academia and payer are aspired.

Betrachtet man jedoch den Anteil der Ausgaben für Versorgungsforschung der Unternehmen, gemessen an den Ausgaben für klinische Forschung, entfallen schätzungsweise derzeit 5 % auf Studien zu Versorgungsforschung. Dies kann aber individuell von Unternehmen zu Unternehmen abweichen, je nachdem, welchen Stellenwert das Thema einnimmt. Bekannt ist aber, dass die pharmazeutische Industrie im Gesundheitsbereich den Großteil der gesamten Forschungsausgaben trägt. Betrachtet man die prozentualen Anteile verschiedener Bereiche an den Forschungs-und Entwicklungsausgaben insgesamt, so entfallen 47 % der Ausgaben auf die klinischen Prüfungen (ohne Phase IV), wie eine US-amerikanische Umfrage für 2013 ermittelte. Die restlichen Anteile entfallen auf die Präklinik, Zulassung, Pharmakovigilanz und sonstige Anteile. 7 Nationale und internationale Forschung sind schwer voneinander abzugrenzen. Die Gesundheitsberichterstattung des Bundes weist für 2013 ca. 3,9 Mrd. Euro 4 an Forschungsausgaben für den Gesundheitsbereich aus. Im gleichen Jahr hat die pharmazeutische Industrie in Deutschland 6,1 Mrd. Euro 5 in F&E investiert. Vermutet werden kann deshalb, dass die pharmazeutische Industrie auch im Bereich der Versorgungsforschung zunehmend ein bedeutender Akteur ist -trotz umfangreicher Versorgungsforschungsaktivitäten von Krankenkassen und avisierter erheblicher finanzieller Mittel im Kontext der erwarteten Einrichtung des Innovationsfonds beim G-BA.
