Palavras-chave: secagem natural, equilíbrio higroscópico, semente, Sesamum indicum NATURAL DRYING OF SESAME AND DETERMINATION OF EQUILIBRIUM MOISTURE ABSTRACTThe drying consisted of plant exposure to solar light. This procedure was conducted until the seeds reached a moisture content of approximately 6% wet basis. The equilibrium moisture contents were determined, by the statistic method using sulfuric acid solutions with 98% purity for a relative humidity varying from 17 to 85%. The samples were placed in wire baskets and stored in hermetic bottles containing the respective solution, and placed inside the incubator with the temperature controlled at 20, 30 and 40 o C ± 1 o C. For the sorption isotherms adjustments, the BET, GAB, Halsey and Oswin models were tested in order to obtain the coefficients of these equations by non-linear regression analysis. According to the results, it may be concluded that the seeds need 35 days to reach the moisture content equal to 6.1% wet basis and the GAB model showed best adjustment for the experimental data.
There is scarcity of information about the conservation of the CNPA G 3 seed strain commercialized in the State of Paraíba. The physiological quality of the seeds of this strain was studied, with storage being in paper bags, cloth sacks and metallic container, under the ambient conditions of two micro-regions of Paraíba (Patos and Campina Grande) and in an environment with controlled conditions during 13 months. Germination and vigor tests as well as the determination of dry matter moisture content were performed. A completely randomized design in a 3 x 3 x 8 factorial scheme with four repetitions was adopted. Based upon the results, it is concluded that the differential viability response for all the analyzed factors used is associated with the type of packaging, which determined the longevity of the seed during the storage period.
