the nurses underwent an oral hygiene education programme. Sixty-seven per cent of patients demonstrated proper denture care, a significant improvement from 0% at baseline. Discussion: Standardisation of oral hygiene practices, provision of complimentary toothbrushes and toothpastes and conducting education programmes were the main contributing factors for the significant results. Nurses' resistant to change was one challenge faced during the implementation. Conclusion: With effective oral hygiene interventions and education in place, the oral hygiene of patients with cancer could be more effectively maintained and sustained.
