Introducción: La hiperplasia gingival espongiótica juvenil localizada (LJSGH) es una patología benigna poco común, mencionada por primera vez en 2007 por Darling y cols. Se caracteriza por presentarse como una masa gingival solitaria indolora, de color rojo brillante, aspecto aterciopelado y propenso a sangrar al cepillado dental, su causa es desconocida. Por lo general afecta un área discreta de la encía adherida. Objetivo: Dar a conocer el caso clínico de una paciente joven con una patología poco conocida y describir sus características clínicas. Metodología: Se realizó una revisión de la literatura en distintas bases digitales como PubMed,Science Direct, Medigraphic y ELSEVIER recopilando información relevante que justifique los hallazgos del presente caso clínico de una paciente femenina. Resultados: las características clínicas como su color rojizo, su textura y ubicación fueron indicativos claves para la LJSGH, además de la ausencia de respuesta a las medidas de higiene oral. Conclusión: La hiperplasia gingival espongiótica juvenil se define como una entidad clínica patológica poco frecuente que los odontólogos podrían encontrar en su consulta, es importante conocer esta patología para poder diagnosticarla adecuadamente.
