A encefalopatia crônica não progressiva (ECNP) é uma doença que acomete o sistema nervoso central em fase de maturação devido a uma lesão encefálica cujo quadro clínico depende da área lesada, do fator causal e sua sintomatologia. São achados comuns: alterações de tônus, posturais e de coordenação motora, retardo cognitivo e distúrbios de deglutição, reflexos primitivos persistentes, podendo desencadear complicações respiratórias. Objetivo. Os objetivos deste trabalho são a descrição das alterações motoras da encefalopatia e sua relação com as complicações respiratórias. Método. Foi realizada uma revisão literária, utilizando-se artigos, das bases de dados BIREME, SCIELO e MEDLINE, além de livros e periódicos, da língua portuguesa e inglesa que relatavam alterações neuromotoras e respiratórias de pacientes com ECNP, utilizando-se os descritores: paralisia cerebral, distúrbios respiratórios, distúrbios motores, refluxo gastroesofágico, pneumonia em pacientes neurológicos, aspiração, pacientes pediátrico e complicações respiratórias.
