O câncer é uma doença de caráter crônico-degenerativo, normalmente associada a um histórico de sofrimento físico e mental. Atualmente, os avanços em torno do tratamento de câncer são vastos, apesar deles, diversas pesquisas apontam que há mudanças significativas na qualidade de vida dos indivíduos com esse diagnóstico. O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar os impactos na qualidade de vida de pacientes sob tratamento oncológico. Trata-se de um estudo metodológico de revisão integrativa da literatura sobre o recorte especializado publicado entre os anos de 2017 a 2022, que consiste em apresentar o impacto do tratamento oncológico na qualidade de vida das pessoas. Esta pesquisa partiu de uma consulta online na base de dados Medline e na biblioteca SciELO, a partir de quatro descritores em Ciências da Saúde, DeCS – “Oncologia”, “Qualidade de vida” e “Quimioterapia”. Foram selecionados 32 artigos que atendiam aos critérios pré-definidos para inclusão e exclusão dos artigos selecionados. Após seleção restaram 5 artigos enquadrados nos critérios adotados. Os principais achados nas buscas que remetem a uma melhoria na qualidade de vida dos pacientes oncológicos nos estudos incluídos foram: O impacto do diagnóstico e do tratamento são intensos e, na maioria das vezes, reflete no estado físico e mental do paciente. O que sugere mudanças no estilo e qualidade de vida. O estudo permitiu identificar os principais impactos do tratamento quimioterápico sob a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Pode-se destacar a perda de cabelos, a perda de olfato, perda de apetite, dor muscular, náuseas, mal estar, vômito, perda ou ganho de peso, medo, insegurança, sintomas depressivos, dentre outras. Com isso é necessário que os profissionais de enfermagem adotem condutas específicas para amenizar estes aspectos que comprometem a saúde física e mental do acometido.
