A investigação objetivou avaliar a adequabilidade do conhecimento, atitude e prática dos idosos residentes e usuários de um centro de convivência em relação ao HIV/aids. Trata-se de uma pesquisa avaliativa do tipo Conhecimento, Atitude e Prática, de corte transversal e abordagem quantitativa. O estudo evidenciou que a maioria (55,6%, n= 40) dos idosos classificaram o seu próprio conhecimento em relação ao HIV como ruim, ocasionando lacunas em relação ao conhecimento, atitude e prática dos idosos sobre o HIV/aids, as quais merecem uma atenção especial por parte das políticas públicas e profissionais da área da saúde. Assim, é imprescindível que se implementem ações educativas cujo foco principal sejam o compartilhamento de saberes sobre o HIV/ aids, com vistas no empoderamento da pessoa idosa para a realização do autocuidado e para a corresponsabilidade no processo saúde-doença.
