The purpose of the study: In this work, the nutritional and elemental analysis of seaweeds in Northern Samar is analyzed.
Methodology:The seaweeds of Northern Samar are collected from intertidal zone, and it was brought back to the College of Science for taxonomic identity. The nutritional and elemental content of the seaweeds were determined Main findings: Based on the results obtained a total of 39 species belonging to eighteen (18) families of seaweeds were recorded from different coastal towns in Northern Samar, Philippines. The results revealed that for seaweeds with the economic value the nutritional and elemental content is comparable to the unknown seaweeds with no economic value.
Implications:The results of bioavailability of nutrients of this study might be the basis that unknown seaweeds with no economic value can be used directly in the diet and promote health advantage.Originality/Novelty of study: The seaweeds of Northern Samar are not properly documented in comparison with other marine flora. The results demonstrated that some species of seaweeds collected in Northern Samar with no economic value could also accumulate non-essential elements. Further studies would surely be a great contribution to our local food and pharmaceutical industries.
This study was conducted to determine the physical properties and the vitamin A and vitamin E present using spectroscopic analysis in different Dioscorea species tuber extracts found in Lavezares, Northern Samar, Philippines. The result for the physical characterization of different Dioscorea species in tuber extracts has a boiling point of 97.6˚C, milky white in color, unpleasant in odor, has a density of 0.81 g/mL, and has a pH of 4.9. In solubility, the ethanol and water are miscible. While the tuber extracts has a boiling point of 98.6˚C, brown in color, like tea in odor, has a density of 0.86 g/mL, and has a pH of 5.6, in solubility the ethanol and water are miscible. UV-Vis analysis was used to determine the vitamin A and vitamin E content of Dioscorea species and was compared to standard sample. The vitamin content analysis shows that the sample has good natural vitamins.
Objective: Nanotechnology is one of the greatest breakthroughs in the field of science and technology that have numerous applications that are essential, nowadays. This study was conducted to synthesize ZnONps from carrageenan and characterized the carrageenan with ZnONps using UV-VIS, SEM and FTIR. Material and methods: The Kappa Carrageenan was used to synthesize ZnONps using the wet chemical method. The synthesize ZnONps was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared to identify the functional group present. UV-Vis was used to determine the wavelength spectra of the sample. The Scanning Electron Microscopy was used to determine the surface morphology of the sample. The colorless solution changes into milky white Results and conclusion: colloid mixture that indicates the presence of ZnONps. The wavelength peak using the UV-Vis was observed around 350-400 nm. Presence of Alkyne group was seen after the FTIR analysis and also, presence of white powdery substance-which indicates the presence of ZnONps-in textile, was seen after the SEM analysis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
