Con el objetivo de indagar sobre la percepción del Consentimiento Informado (CI) que tienen los profesionales de la salud en el área asistencial, administrativa y los familiares de los pacientes que ingresan a la unidad de cuidado intensivo pediátrico (UCIP), se realizó una investigación cualitativa en un hospital universitario de<br />Bogotá; los datos se obtuvieron a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas por muestreo intencional, realizada a 18 médicos y 5 enfermeras que laboran en la unidad de cuidado intensivo, 27 familiares de los pacientes y dos profesionales del área administrativa. Para el análisis de la información se seleccionaron cuatro temas:<br />conceptualización e importancia del consentimiento informado, relación médico–paciente, dificultades para el proceso del consentimiento informado y derechos de los pacientes y/o familiares. Se elaboró una base de datos con el programa MS Excel para Mac 2008, donde se identificaron los temas y categorías con mayor frecuencia. En la investigación se evidenció que en el hospital universitario, el CI es percibido como un documento legal que autoriza los procedimientos que se van a realizar; se reconocen los derechos que tienen<br />los pacientes a través del CI, pero se relacionan más con la participación que deberían tener los pacientes capaces de tomar decisiones.
