El presente trabajo de investigación busca fortalecer la competencia científica “identificar” en estudiantes del grado segundo de una Institución Educativa de la ciudad de Cali, a partir de un ambiente de aprendizaje potenciado por TIC (Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación) en el eje temático estados de la materia desde una perspectiva de la mediación didáctica. La metodología se implementa desde el Diseño Mixto de Conversión, teniendo en cuenta las siguientes fases: en la fase de contextualización se establecen las características de la población a partir de la implementación de una evaluación diagnóstica con el propósito de identificar los conocimientos previos de los estudiantes y el nivel de desarrollo de la competencia científica “identificar”; en la fase de planeación se elabora la secuencia de actividades para la enseñanza del eje temático “Estados de la materia” a partir de los resultados obtenidos; la fase de implementación de la secuencia de actividades se desarrolla a través de cinco clases (una clase por semana), con una duración de 90 minutos cada una y en la fase de resultados y análisis se recopila la información obtenida, la cual se analiza a partir de dos categorías emergentes: construcción del conocimiento científico escolar (categoría 1) y toma de decisiones (categoría 2) y las rúbricas que permiten cuantificar la información. Dichas categorías permitieron establecer el nivel de dominio (Preestructural, uniestructural, multiestructural, relacional, abstracto) de la competencia identificar en los estudiantes. De los resultados obtenidos se infiere que la construcción del conocimiento científico escolar está directamente relacionada con la toma de decisiones de los estudiantes. A través de la implementación de la secuencia de actividades potenciadas en recursos multimedia y la mediación del docente, los estudiantes fortalecieron y desarrollaron la competencia científica “identificar”, pasando de diversos niveles al nivel abstracto.
