Drug intake and plasma concentrations of theophylline and β-agonists were recorded in 19 patients with acute asthma (peak expiratory flow rate < 50% of predicted normal value and heart rate > 100 beats/min). 10 of the patients arrived at the hospital twice; accordingly 29 cases of acute asthma were studied. The results show that few patients overdosed their medicine before arrival at the hospital. On the contrary, they were often undertreated. This was verified both by plasma concentrations and drug intake reported by the patients. There was a poor correlation between plasma concentrations and drug intake in 14% of the 29 patient admissions.
SUMMARYA static ampoule microcalorimeter was used to study the growth of mycoplasmas, acholeplasmas and ureaplasmas. Growth as indicated by thermograms was compared with the results of conventional methods, namely, terminal dilution counts, plate counts, turbidimetric measurements, glucose consumption and pH changes. Removal of oxygen had little effect on mycoplasma growth. The microcalorimetric method is potentially useful for identifying and enumerating the members of the M ycoplasmatales.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
