El presente escrito es un ensayo de reflexión sobre qué papel debe jugar la educación en la sociedad del conocimiento. Este concepto que se refiere a los cambios y transformaciones sociales que se están produciendo en la sociedad actual e implica que analicemos si estamos educando a los individuos para que se adapten a estos cambios de tal forma que podamos realizar los ajustes necesarios en los sistemas educativos de todos los niveles, en especial en la Educación Superior. Para ello, en el desarrollo de este escrito se indaga en las demandas que se exige a la educación en esta nueva sociedad, pero principlamente se reflexiona sobre nuestro rol como docentes el cual debe ser de facilitador que guía al educando en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje y en especial que forma individuos para la vida en las dimensiones: profesional, social y personal. Por último, se consideran las limitaciones que existen en la sociedad del conocimiento las cuales impiden la inclusión de todos los miembros de la sociedad.
Propósito: El presente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar el estrés, las estrategias de afrontamiento y experiencia académica de estudiantes de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua) y estudiantes de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) durante el primer semestre del año 2020 en tiempos de pandemia del COVID-19. Método: El estudio utilizó un enfoque cualitativo, el cual permitió describir la vivencia personal de los participantes; se utilizó un diseño fenomenológico, de corte transversal y alcance descriptivo. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 16 estudiantes entre las edades de 18 y 27 años, de los cuales 8 pertenecen a la UNAN-Managua y 8 a la UC. Se aplicó una entrevista semiestructurada, la cual se elaboró en base a los objetivos del estudio y las categorías de análisis. Resultados: Los estudiantes de la UC presentaron manifestaciones de estrés de mayor gravedad que los estudiantes de la UNAN-Managua, como ansiedad, depresión e ideas de muerte. Las principales estrategias de afrontamiento ante la pandemia adoptadas por ambos grupos de participantes, a nivel individual y familiar, fueron acatar las medidas sanitarias recomendadas por las autoridades sanitarias. En el caso de Chile, se estableció un régimen de cuarentena obligatoria mientras que en Nicaragua no se establecieron restricciones de movilidad interna. Finalmente, las contingencias sanitarias de cada país se reflejaron en el desarrollo del primer semestre en las instituciones académicas a las que pertenecían los participantes. Los estudiantes de la UNAN-Managua recibieron clases bajo la modalidad por encuentro, en cambio, los estudiantes de la UC cursaron el semestre en línea.
El presente escrito está basado en una reflexión sobre cómo debemos de concebir la educación para el siglo XXI, en el cual se plantea que la educación debe abordarse desde una perspectiva holística del aprendizaje, puesto que los cambios sociales y culturales que se han producido en los últimos tiempos nos demanda que modifiquemos la visión que se tenía de la educación en el siglo pasado. Los pedagogos hablan entonces, de una acción educativa integral para abarcar la totalidad del ser, en donde prevalezcan las necesidades individuales (cognitivo-afectivas) de los educandos. En el desarrollo del planteamiento se enfatiza en cómo aplicar el concepto del holismo en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, en el rol del educando, en el rol del docente y en los contenidos. Por último, se destaca la importancia del compromiso que debemos adquirir como educadores para responder a las exigencias que demanda nuestra sociedad en relación con la educación.
