A articulação temporomandibular (ATM) consiste em uma articulação ginglimoartroidal que permite movimentos de dobradiça em um eixo e movimentos de deslizamento em outro eixo, em outras palavras, é o movimento de abrir e fechar a boca, é uma das articulações mais complexas do corpo. As disfunções temporomandibulares (DTM) são anormalidades que acomentem a ATM. A reabilitação da articulação temporomandibular exige uma discussão ampla para que seja possível aliviar a dor e reestabelecer as funções do paciente. Várias linhas de tratamento já foram sugeridas na literatura para tratamento de DTMs, entretanto, ainda há uma lacuna no desenvolvimento desse protocolos terpêuticos. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi realizar uma abordagem indireta e de caráter bibliográfico para analisar a aplicabilidade e os benefícios que o ácido hialorônico apresenta no tratamento de DTM. Para isso, foi realizada uma abordagem descritiva respeito da aplicação de ácido hialurônico (AH) na atm para pacientes com disfunção temporomandibular e averiguar as incidências nos últimos anos através de analises de trabalhos acadêmicos. A pesquisa foi realizada de formato secundário, ou seja, através de trabalhos acadêmicos. Foram selecionados artigos publicados entre 2005 e 2022 nas plataformas Google acadêmico, Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo) e Pubmed. Por meio do levantamento dos trabalhos acadêmicos, verificou-se que a terapia intra-articular com ácido hialurônico é efetiva na diminuição dos niveis sintomatológicos e no reestabelecimento funcional da articulação temporomandibular. Conclui-se que o uso do ácido hialurônico é de suma importância no tratamento de pacientes que se queixam com problemas de DTM.
