A better understanding of tourism small and medium enterprise (TSME) management practices could improve firm performance. Extending the resource-based view theory, this study empirically investigated the causal relationships between management practices and TSME firm performance using a structural equation model and survey data of 346 tourism entrepreneurs. Six of the nine hypotheses were confirmed. It was found that business planning, entrepreneurial motivation, and government assistance do have a direct and positive effect on TSME firm performance. Additionally, entrepreneurial motivation was positively associated with business planning, business alliance, and firm performance; however, business alliance and Internet adoption did not affect firm performance. The findings highlight the importance of management practices that have previously been overlooked in policy decision making within the tourism industry.
This paper examines the characteristics of tourism entrepreneurs in Malaysia. In recent times, Tourism Small and Medium Enterprises (TSMEs) have played crucial role in sustaining economic growth and development in Malaysia. The Malaysian government has implemented programs and policies aimed at ensuring the success of the tourism industry. The paper explores the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of tourism entrepreneurs in Malaysia to explore the awareness and use of the government assistance tourism related programs based on a survey of 346 tourism entrepreneurs. Overall, the study finds that a tourism entrepreneur in Malaysia do not avail the assistance schemes and support provided by the Malaysian government. Many TSMEs operators are still unaware of the available assistance programs and not well utilized by TSMEs. The paper concludes with the policy implications drawn from the study.
During the past a few general elections in print and television and the modern-day social media, by using a number of variables. The comparisons were analyzed from two important demographic factors in an election which are (i) location of the voters (i.e. city, surburban area and rural area) and (ii) race (i.e. Malay, Chinese, Indian and other Bumiputras). The study was conducted for a period of one month following the dissolution of the Parliament on 4 th April 2013. The implications of the study focus on the consumers' perceptual shift in terms of the use of media in propagating political parties in the recent general election inMalaysia. The limitations of the study are also discussed.
Satisfaction has become a major concern for the tourism businesses as it contributed to the willingness to recommend. This paper explores factors that contributed to satisfaction and willingness to recommend scuba diving tourism. The purposive sampling method was used to select the respondent for the survey which used questionnaires in Redang Island, Malaysia. By using SmartPLS, the study analysis confirms the importance of services, facilities, and destination image towards satisfaction and willingness to recommend scuba divers. Perceived crowdedness was found to have moderating effects on the proposed relationship. The study also highlights the unsupported relationship between lodging and satisfaction. These findings lead to further discussion on the theoretical and managerial implications for scuba diving tourism.
The education system in Malaysia has increased with the use of computers as a teaching tool. Technological amenities such as Internet technology are created as a successful teaching and learning branch. Terms of Digital education is one of the educational transformation efforts undertaken by Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) under the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2013-2025 which focus more on digital and Internet materials at schools and known as a 21st Century Learning (PAK-21). Although the MOE introduced this digital education system for the convenience of teachers, the teacher's desire to use computers was limited, and there were some constraints faced by teachers in implementing digital classroom teaching. Computer literacy skills became a significant constraint among teachers. Incomplete teachers handle computers; have low confidence in using computers in the school and vice versa (Gilakjani, Mei & Ismail, 2013). This study aims to analyze the intention of Digital Education behavior among Malaysian school teachers and to explore individual skills as an advanced component of the extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Also, this study aims to examine the role of Attitude, Subjective Normative and Perceived Behavioral as intermediaries on the relationship between individual skills and intentions to use the Internet among school teachers in Malaysia and to develop an extended TPB model including Individual Skills. To achieve this objective, this study examines the behavioral intention of secondary school teachers in Peninsular Malaysia towards this digital education based on the framework of the TPB. A structured questionnaire has been provided to 91 teachers based from table Green (1991) as the sample size for this research and the teachers some from government secondary schools in Malaysia and to obtain information about the characteristics and performance of their management. A descriptive and inferential analysis was conducted using the Smart PLS 3.0 statistics package. This study provides strong empirical evidence to demonstrate that to increase the use of digital education among teachers in Malaysia there is a need to improve the interest and skills to be exposed to teachers and to use this digital education well and not misused. This can be achieved through the development of policy and effective government creation and providing greater awareness of digital education programs is easier to use than traditional learning methods.
