O objetivo do estudo é avaliar o efeito da técnica de inibição dos músculos suboccipitais na dor, qualidade do sono e incapacidade de indivíduos com diagnóstico clínico de cefaleia tensional. Trata-se de um ensaio clínico, descritivo e quantitativo, a amostra foi composta por 10 participantes, sendo 7 mulheres e 3 homens. Foram incluídos homens e mulheres com idade entre 18 e 40 anos. Eles foram submetidos à Escala Visual Analógica para obtenção da intensidade da dor antes, durante e após o tratamento, ao Questionário de Qualidade de Sono de Pittsburg, a fim de avaliar a qualidade do sono, e ao Headache Impact Test para verificar o impacto da cefaleia nas atividades funcionais. A intervenção consistiu em 4 sessões, sendo os participantes avaliados antes, imediatamente após a intervenção e 7 dias subsequentes as mesmas. A melhora dor foi altamente significativa e com efeito prolongado por até 7 dias (p < 0,001). A qualidade de sono e incapacidade também apresentaram melhora significativa (p = 0,007) e (p = 0,008). Obteve-se melhora altamente significativa da dor e incapacidade, com resultados prolongados por 7 dias. Sugere-se, então, a importância desta técnica para as variáveis citadas e que a mesma deve ser incluída no plano de tratamento de pessoas com cefaleia tensional.Palavras-chave: Cefaleia do tipo tensional, técnicas de fisioterapia, dor de cabeça, manipulação osteopática.
