Aim The aim of this study was to determine the effect of pedometer‐supported walking and telemonitoring after lumbar disc hernia surgery on pain and disability levels and quality of life. Methods This was a randomized controlled trial with two randomly selected groups conducted between March 2018 and January 2019. Sixty‐seven participants (33 in the intervention group and 34 in the control group) who had undergone lumbar microdiscectomy were allocated to receive and not to receive walking exercise. Pain and disability levels and quality of life of groups were tested with the McGill Pain Questionnaire, the Oswestry Disability Index and the 36‐Item Short Form Survey. Measurements were taken 3 weeks after surgery and following completion of the first, second and third months. Results Compared with the control group, pain level at the first and second months and disability level at the second and third months in the intervention group were significantly lower (p < 0.05), and in the third month, subdimension scores of quality of life (the physical role difficulty, energy and vitality, mental health, social functionality and pain) were higher (p < 0.05). Conclusions Walking after herniated disc surgery decreased pain and disability levels and increased the quality of life; nurses can encourage adherence to walking as an effective intervention.

Hemşirelik bakımından hasta memnuniyeti, hastaların hizmet kalitesine ilişkin algılarını açıklamada önemli bir etmen olarak görülmektedir. Hasta özellikleri de olmak üzere birçok etmen hastaların aldığı tedavi ve bakımdan memnuniyetlerini etkilemektedir. AMAÇ: Bu çalışmanın amacı, cerrahi kliniklerde yatan hastaların hemşirelik bakımından memnuniyetini ve hasta özelliklerinin bu sonuçlardaki etkisini belirlemektir. YÖNTEM: Tanımlayıcı, kesitsel türdeki bu çalışmanın evrenini bir üniversite hastanesinin cerrahi kliniklerinde yatarak tedavi gören yetişkin hastalar oluşturdu. Çalışma örneklemini ise araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden, 18 yaş ve üzeri, iletişim kurabilen ve en az iki gece hastanede yatan 189 hasta oluşturdu. Veriler, hastaların hastanede yattıkları sürede öz bildirimleriyle tamamlanan "Newcastle Hemşirelik Bakımından Memnuniyet Ölçeği" ile toplandı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde yüzdelik, ortalama, bağımsız gruplarda t testi, tekyönlü ANOVA, Karuskal Wallis testi ve Pearson's Korelasyon analizi kullanıldı. BULGULAR: Cerrahi kliniklerde yatan hastaların hemşirelik bakımından memnuniyet puan ortalaması 65,76±11,27 olarak bulundu. En yüksek memnuniyet hastaların mahremiyetlerine gösterilen saygı alanında(3,72±0,86), en düşük memnuniyet ise hemşirelerin hastaları evlerinde gibi hissettirmeleri alanındaydı (3,15±0,86).Yaş, eğitim düzeyi, medeni durum, sosyal güvence varlığı ve önceki hastane deneyimi ile bakımdan memnuniyet arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunmazken (p>0,05), cinsiyet açısından anlamlı fark bulundu (p=0,008). Ayrıca hastaların hastanede kalış süresi ile memnuniyetleri arasında negatif yönde anlamlı ilişki saptandı(p=0,007). SONUÇ: Çalışma bulguları, cerrahi hastaların hemşirelik bakımından orta düzeyde memnun olduğunu gösterdi. Ayrıca erkeklere göre kadınların bakımdan daha memnun oldukları ve hastanede kalış süresinin hastaların memnuniyet algılarını olumsuz yönde etkilediği belirlendi.

Introduction: Nursing process, as a scientific method of nursing practice, is an important tool for putting nursing knowledge into practice which increases the quality of nursing care. The study was aimed to determine the opinions of nursing students regarding the nursing process and their levels of proficiency. Methods: A total of 44 nursing students participated in this descriptive study. Data were collected by a three-part questionnaire including the opinion of students on nursing process, Gordon’s functional health patterns model and the NANDA diagnoses. Data were analyzed by SPSS software. Results: Most of the students (65.9%) believed that the nursing process was necessary. half of the students explained the diagnosis, 58.3% explained the planning, 41.3% explained the implementation, and 43.6% explained the evaluation sufficiently. Conclusion: It is suggested for instructors to use different teaching methods in order to develop critical thinking while teaching the nursing process.

Objectives:To determine cognitive functions and perceived social support (SS) among individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM), and the effects of SS on the development of cognitive dysfunction (CD).Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted in 121 patients with DM presenting at the Endocrinology Clinic of Cumhuriyet University Health Services Application and Research Hospital, Sivas, Turkey between April and June 2014. Data were collected utilizing the “Patient Assessment Form”, “Standardized Mini Mental State Examination (SMMSE)”, and “Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS)”.Results:The mean score obtained for DM patients from the SMMSE was 21.55±5.7, with 65.3% found to have cognitive impairment. The total mean score of the participants for MSPSS was considered moderate (66.61±14.42). There was a significant positive correlation between cognitive function and SS (r=0.273, p=0.002). It was determined that individuals with CD had low levels of perceived SS, and that insufficient support from families and significant others contributed to the development of CD (p=0.008).Conclusion:In this study, it was determined that the cognitive function of individuals with DM was impaired and would improve as the perception of SS increased, and that perceived SS would affect the development of CD. Therefore, health professionals can contribute to the improvement of cognitive function of individuals with DM by facilitating the use of SS sources.
