This paper presents a concatenated coded modulation scheme for error control in satellite-based land mobile communication systems. The concatenated scheme is achieved by using a set of multiplexed inner trellis codes and with a (n,k) Reed-Solomon outer code. Error performance is analyzed in the presence of both Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. As the parallel implementation of the trellis codec acts as the interleaver and deinterleaver, block interleaving with its associated synchronization problems is no longer needed in this system. In order to minimize the delay caused by this type of diversity in time, the minimum interleaving length as a function of the fading parameters is given.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
