Bowenoid papulosis (BP) is a premalignant condition usually caused by oncogenic types of human papillomavirus (HPV) presenting clinically as warty genital papules. Adult T-cell leukaemia–lymphoma (ATLL) is a peripheral T-cell leukaemia–lymphoma caused by the retrovirus, human T-cell lymphotropic virus 1 (HTLV-1). We report a case of BP initially mistaken as genital warts; on detailed evaluation the patient had features of chronic immunosuppression. The presence of leukaemic cells in the peripheral blood, bone marrow and skin along with a positive HTLV-1 serology confirmed the diagnosis of ATLL.
The discoid lesions of DLE affecting the eyelids can mimic the appearance of chronic blepharitis. Ophthalmologists should be aware that DLE is a possibility while dealing with an atypical case of chronic blepharitis. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent deformities of eyelid.
BACKGROUNDFungal keratitis is a significant cause of ocular morbidity and unilateral blindness worldwide. The incidence varies with various geographical location and is more common in tropical countries. They are the predominant type of infective corneal ulcers in South India. Identifying the fungal spectrum in each geographical location may help to choose the initial treatment. Aim of the study was to identify spectrum of fungi, to assess the response to the standard treatment given and to find out the sensitivity and specificity of KOH preparation in clinically diagnosed fungal corneal ulcers in patients attending a tertiary care centre in Kerala.
