Distribution Generation is expected to become more important in future generation system. In distribution system, due to load uncertainties the load exceeds the generating capacity which leads to power loss and unreliable operation of the system. To overcome this problem DG units are incorporated into the distribution system to meet the excess demand which results in power loss minimization, improvement of voltage profile, power quality improvement, reliable operation, etc., clustering techniques are proposed in this paper for optimal placement of DG. Multi DG units have to be placed to optimize the overall performance resulting in technical and economic benefits due to DG installation. In this paper IEEE standard 33 bus radial distribution test system is considered to indicate the efficacy of the proposed hierarchical and k-means algorithms in DG allocation.
Now a day's non-conventional energy sources like PV power and Wind power sources are well developed because conventional energy sources are reduced day by day and at the same time the population has been increased. These drawbacks can be overcome by developing the microgrids. In current trends, microgrid protection is a very challenging task. Due to the interconnection of several distributed generators, fault currents are produced. Resistive type superconducting fault current limiter is used for the protection of microgrids because its operating time is very less, it stops the abnormal currents with in the first cycle and continuity of supply is possible. But R-SFCL had some disadvantages, it is not compensated for the reactive power. Then voltage levels are not compensated, for that reason series active power filters are used along with R-SFCL. Here series active power filters are compensating the voltage magnitudes and reduce the harmonics and then transient stability is improved in the microgrids. This work is done using MATLAB/Simulink.
This research is to enhance the quality of power by reduce real power loss in distribution system and enables voltage profile enhancement at each bus. This will achieve by integrating Distributed Generation (DG) in optimal place with suitable size. In order to overcome the disadvantage of sluggish convergence of conventional algorithms the BAT Algorithm (BA) is used. In this paper the week buses are finding by using Backward/Forward (BW/FW) sweep approach based on real power loss. Later by using BA approach determination of optimal capacity and location will be done. This optimal size and location will leads to great minimization in real power loss and improvement of voltage at each bus. In this research the wind energy and Photo Voltaic (PV) energies are consider as DGs. This research is to determine the advantage of the proposed analysis on IEEE-69 radial bus using MATLAB software. The results were evaluated with the GSA approach existing in literature. Finally simulation outcomes prove that the proposed approach performance is superior in enhancing the power quality by optimal placement of DG and capacity of the DG.
