An electronic circuit model of nerve axon in respect to signal propagation based on the neunstor proposed by Crane is described. This circuit is a cascade of identical active network segments suited to be integrated. The active line has characteristics such as threshold, a refractory period, saltatory propagation, and bidirectional propagation. These properties are similar to those of signal transmission along a nerve axon. There are two modes of interconnection of the active line: T and S junctions. Especially with the S junction, it is possible to materialize directional junctions, one of which has the function of presynaptic inhibition. This model would be useful as an element of digital systems and as an artificial nerve axon.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
