Both the antibacterial pastes, i.e., combination of ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, and minocycline and ciprofloxacin, ornidazole, and minocycline mixed with propylene glycol have shown good clinical and radiographic success in treating necrotic primary teeth.
It can be concluded that the use of antioxidant before bonding procedures on bleached enamel completely neutralizes the deleterious effects of bleaching and increases the bond strength significantly.
Chewing of CPP-ACP containing chewing gum showed a significant increase in the salivary concentration of calcium for a prolonged period of time hence it may help in the remineralization of tooth surfaces.
Traumatized anterior teeth need quick, aesthetic and functional repair. Along with aesthetics, the physical properties of restorative material should also be considered for long-lasting restoration. Fibre reinforcement has been tried as a newer technique to improve the physical properties of composite materials. Hence, this study was carried out to evaluate the fracture resistance of microhybrid composite, nano composite and fibre-reinforced composite used for restoration of incisal edge of fractured maxillary central incisors. Extracted permanent maxillary central incisors were randomly divided into four groups of 10 samples each: control group with intact teeth (Group A), microhybrid composite (Esthet X; Dentsply/Caulk, Milford, DE, USA) (group B), nano composite (Ceram X; Dentsply/Caulk) (group C) and microhybrid composite reinforced with polyethylene fibre - flowable composite unit [(Ribbond THM; Ribbond Inc., Seattle, WA, USA; Esthet X flow; Dentsply/Caulk)] (group D). The fracture resistance was measured under universal testing machine at a speed of 1mmmin(-1) with the loading tip of 2mm diameter. The samples were further evaluated for mode of fracture under stereomicroscope at 3.5× magnification. The data were analysed using one-way anova and Tukey's test for fracture resistance. Group A and group D exhibited significantly higher fracture resistance than group B and group C. No significant difference was found between group B and group C as well as between group A and group D. Fisher's exact test for the mode of fracture revealed no statistical significance. It was concluded that fibre reinforcement of composite could be an alternative technique for restoration of fractured anterior teeth for better aesthetics and longevity of the restoration.
Objective: To evaluate the clinical and radiographic success rates of 3Mix and Vitapex in the treatment of necrosed primary teeth. Materials and methods: Seventy teeth of healthy children aged 4-9 years with necrotic primary molar (nonvital) were treated with 3Mix (lesion sterilization tissue repair therapy) and Vitapex before restoration with stainless steel crowns. The participants were followed up clinically and radiographically for 3 months and 6 months, respectively. The outcome was compared using Fisher exact test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Clinical success rate of 3Mix group at 3 months and 6 month follow-up was 100% and 97.14% and that of Vitapex group was 100% and 100%, respectively. The radiographic success rate of 3Mix group at 3 months and 6 months was 74.29% and 77.14% and of Vitapex group was 97.14% and 97.14%, respectively. Considering the clinical success, no statistical difference was found between the two groups at the end of 6 month (p = 1.000). But radiographically statistical significant difference was found between the two groups (p = 0.028). Conclusion: Non-instrumentation endodontic treatment using 3Mix has shown a good clinical success of 97.14% but the radiographic success rate at 6 months was lower (77.14%). So it can be suggested that the use of 3Mix antibiotic treatment cannot replace conventional root canal treatment over the long term.
