À partir des recensements des 19e et 20e siècles, des équipes de chercheurs travaillent à la création de bases de données informatisées qui vont améliorer considérablement l’infrastructure canadienne de recherche en histoire et en sciences sociales, en démographie particulièrement. Cette note de recherche porte sur la préparation d’une bande-échantillon à grande diffusion du recensement canadien de 1891, en cours à l’Université de Guelph. Les chercheurs décrivent le projet, leur stratégie d’échantillonnage et le potentiel du nouvel outil de recherche.Scholars are currently developing a number of historical census databases that will significantly enhance the research infrastructure for history, demography and other social sciences in Canada. One database project at the University of Guelph aims to prepare a public-use microdata sample (PUMS) from the 1891 census of Canada.
