A modified Bridgman-Stockbarger crystal growth system has been designed and fabricated for relatively low-temperature (up to 250 "C) nonlinear optical organic materials. The novel feature is that the crystal melt surface can be viewed from any direction and the temperature gradient between the hot and cold zone can be adjusted at any time. The ampoule can be lowered at a rate as slow as 0.1 mm h-'. The temperature can be maintained to a precision of kO.1 "C. Highquality single crystals of benzil have been successfully grown using this system.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
