The present paper describes the advantages of the combination of optical Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Polarization Shift Keying (POLSK). By means of a derived new receiver model it is shown that the normally disturbing statistical fluctuations of the State of Polarization (SOP) on a single-mode optical fiber result in an attenuation of the crosscorrelation functions (CCF) at the receiver. Thereby an average process gain of 4.7 dB of the signal-to-crosstalk power ratio is obtained. That means, three times more active users compared to the use of bipolar binary sequences (for example Gold Codes) are possible.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
