The accuracy of staircase-approximation techniques that are used for analyzing optical fiber properties depends on how certain discretization parameters are chosen. In this work we discuss and develop criteria for the choice of those parameters. Particular emphasis is placed on a physics-based criterion we suggest be followed for the specijkation of the refractive index of the layers into which the fiber core is discretized. 0 1993 John Wiley & Sons. lnc. using coplanar waveguide open circuit stubs for the capacitive element.ss. is investigated. Passband ripple within 1.5 d B and a stopband rejection of more than 45 d B is achieved. Comparison of the predicted and experimentally measured results is presented and the agreement is good. 0 1993 John Wiley d Sons, Inc.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
