Ion accelerator facility is a powerful tool that can be used to simulate neutron irradiation effects in reactor materials. At the NRC “Kurchatov Institute” - ITEP the heavy-ion accelerator HIPr is used for the ion-beam simulation of radiation damage in steels and alloys. Irradiation is provided with the wide range of metal ions (mainly Fe2+). It is essential to include helium and hydrogen beams for the proper simulation of transmutation driven mechanisms of swelling and void formation. Energies, beam line angle and intensity are determined for design of the second beam line for He/H implantation at HIPr.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
