Die durch Kochen von Zinkdicyanimid (I) mit Methanol dargestellte Zinkverbindung (II) (Ausbeute 75%), vermutlich ein Chelatkomplex, ergab mit Schwefelwasserstoff in ätherischer Lösung den tautomeren Carbimidsäureester (III) (70%).
Die Komplexe (III) werden aus (I) und Lithiumcyanmethanid (II) dargestellt, die Verbindungen sind zum Teil durch Ligandenaustausch ineinander umwandelbar.
