Antioxidants are frequently used in several dietary supplements and have been probed for their significant role in the prevention of diseases like cancer or coronary heart disease. Acetyl salicylic acid has grabbed substantial attention due to their ability in impeding oxidative stress. In the present study, nine new salicylic acid derivatives:ethylidene] benzohydrazides and Hg (II) complex of N'-[(1Z)-1-(6-bromo-2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl) ethylidene]-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide have been synthesized and characterized in the light of advanced spectral techniques. The antioxidant properties of these compounds were investigated using 2,2-diphenyl-1picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) spectrometric assay and compared with the results of cyclic voltammetry studies. The redox properties shown by the active molecule using cyclic voltammetry correlated well with the biochemical study.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
