Summary
In 1963 and 1964 dispersion (pattern of distribution in space) of oak leaf feeding Lepidoptera (larvae and pupae) was studied in a 70 years old oak stand and in another 200 years old oak stand which had, in former times, served for pasture.
The population density of all Lepidoptera (summarized) was lowest in the upper third of the crown.
Horizontal distribution was rather variable. We could not find any relation to ecological factors such as exposition etc.
The population densities of caterpillars and pupae were generally higher on Quercus robur than on Qu. sessilis. Furthermore, certain Qu. robur individuals had, in either year, high Lepidoptera populations, others had steadily low ones.
