In this report, we present a rare case of childhood ALL with hypercalcemia and extensive osteolytic lesions. The case was a 7-year-old girl presenting with vomiting and aggravating bone pain. Radiologic examinations showed severe osteolytic lesions of the skull and extremities. Laboratory findings revealed low hemoglobin, normal WBC count with absent circulating blasts, and an increased serum calcium level. Serum intact PTH and 1,25-(OH) 2 vitamin D 3 levels were below the normal ranges and parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) was not detected, whereas serum levels of prostaglandin E 2 were elevated. The hypercalcemia resolved with specific antileukemic chemotherapy along with supportive care. The elevated plasma prostaglandin E 2 levels decreased slightly after complete remission with induction chemotherapy. These findings suggest that increased plasma prostaglandin E 2 levels may be one of the pathogenetic mechanisms responsible for the occurrence of hypercalcemia in this patient.
Community structures and species composition in benthic crustacean around Oryukdo of Busan was investigated using a SCUBA diving in 2011. A total 115 species, 51 families, and 4 taxa were collected during the sampling periods. Species were included 52 species in amphipoda, 49 in decapoda, 8 in isopoda and 6 in thoracica. On cluster analysis, the benthic crustacea community was classified into three groups based on the species composition: group A occurred in spring, group B in autumn and winter and group C in summer. Species composition in benthic crustacean corresponded with the water temperature.
: In this work, the numerical analysis for the zincate behavior at a zinc electrode with an electrolyte flow was carried out for a ZAFC. The Nernst-Planck equation with a boundary condition of Butler-Volmer type was adopted to describe electrochemical effects of mass transfer, migration, kinetics of electrode. The Navier-Stokes equation, coupling to the Nernst-Planck equation, is also applied to describe the internal electrolyte flow fields. The validity of the numerical model is proved through the comparative analysis between numerical and experimental results. The concentration of zincate and the current density were also investigated at a zinc anode according to various electrolyte velocities. We have found the concentration of zincate decreased and the current density increased with an increase in the electrolyte velocity.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
