Abstract:Recently, transition metal oxides, such as ruthenium oxide (RuO2), manganese dioxide (MnO2), nickel oxides (NiO) and cobalt oxide (Co3O4), have been widely investigated as electrode materials for pseudo-capacitors. In particular, these metal oxides with mesoporous structures have become very hot nanomaterials in the field of supercapacitors owing to their large specific surface areas and suitable pore size distributions. The high specific capacities of these mesoporous metal oxides are resulted from the effective contacts between electrode materials and electrolytes as well as fast transportation of ions and electrons in the bulk of electrode and at the interface of electrode and electrolyte. During the past decade, many achievements on mesoporous transition metal oxides have been made. In this mini-review, we select several typical nanomaterials, such as RuO2, MnO2, NiO, Co3O4 and nickel cobaltite (NiCo2O4), and briefly summarize the recent research progress of these mesoporous transition metal oxides-based electrodes in the field of supercapacitors.
Background
The COVID-19 outbreak has affected people’s health worldwide. For college students, web-based physical education is a challenge, as these course are normally offered outdoors.
Objective
The aim of this study was to use data from a web-based survey to evaluate the relationship between the mental health status of college students and their sports-related lifestyles. Problems related to web-based physical education were also examined.
Methods
A web-based survey was conducted by snowball sampling from May 8 to 11, 2020. Demographic data, mental health status, and sports-related lifestyles of college students in Wuhan as well as issues related to web-based physical education were collected. Mental health status was assessed by the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21).
Results
The study included 1607 respondents from 267 cities. The average scores of the DASS-21 subscales (2.46 for depression, 1.48 for anxiety, and 2.59 for stress) were significantly lower in our study than in a previous study (P<.05). Lower DASS-21 scores were significantly correlated with regular exercise, maintaining exercise habits during the outbreak of COVID-19, exercising more than 1 to 2 times a week, exercise duration >1 hour, and >2000 pedometer steps (all P<.05). None of the three forms of web-based physical education was preferred by more than 50% of respondents. Frequent technical problems were confronted by 1087/1607 students (67.6%). Shape-up exercises (846/1607, 52.6%), a designed combination of exercises (710/1607, 44.2%), and Chinese kung fu (559/1607, 34.8%) were suggested sports for web-based physical education.
Conclusions
Mental status was significantly correlated with regular exercise and sufficient exercise duration. Professional physical guidance is needed for college students in selected sports. Exercises not meeting students’ preferences, frequent technical problems, and the distant interaction involved in web-based physical education were the main problems that should be solved in future.
An efficient protocol for the generation of amines by palladium-catalyzed nucleophilic benzylic addition of 2-methyl-substituted azaarenes to N-sulfonyl aldimines under neutral conditions via C-H bond activation has been developed. This reaction represents a very efficient methodology for the synthesis of heterocycle-containing amines and thus opens a new way to access amines through C-H bond activation.
Non-adiabatic dynamical simulations were carried out to study cis-to-trans isomerization of azobenzene under laser irradiation and/or external mechanical loads. We used a semiclassical electron-radiation-ion dynamics method that is able to describe the co-evolution of the structural dynamics and the underlying electronic dynamics in a real-time manner. It is found that azobenzene photoisomerization occurs predominantly by an out-of-plane rotation mechanism even under a non trivial resisting force of several tens pN. We have repeated the simulations systematically for a broad range of parameters for laser pulses, but could not find any photoisomerization event by a previously suggested in-plane inversion mechanism. The simulations found that the photoisomerization process can be held back by an external resisting force of 90-200 picoNewtons depending on the frequency and intensity of the lasers. This study also found that a pure mechanical isomerization is possible from the cis to trans state if the azobenzene molecule is stretched by an external force of ~ 1250 -1650 pN. Remarkably, the mechanical isomerization first proceeds through a mechanically activated inversion, and then is diverted to an ultrafast, downhill rotation that accomplishes the isomerization. Implications of these findings to azobenzene-based nanomechanical devices are discussed.
The wide uses of nanosilver (nAg) have resulted in concerns regarding ecotoxicity to aquatic organisms. Some previous studies have found that the toxicity of nAg is due to the nanoparticles themselves, while others have found that ionic silver (Ag(+) ) released by nAg particles plays an important role. In the present study, the authors quantitatively evaluated the relative contribution of nAg particles and Ag(+) to the toxicity to three aquatic organisms of different trophic levels, including an algal species (Raphidocelis subcapitata), a cladoceran species (Chydorus sphaericus), and a freshwater fish larva (Danio rerio). A bare and a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-coated nAg as well as a monodispersed nAg with a dispersant (DIS-nAg) were examined. The toxicity of the nAg in the form of colloids decreased in the order DIS-nAg > PVP-nAg > Bare-nAg for all three trophic aquatic organisms (in terms of median effect concentration). The DIS-nAg had the highest and Bare-nAg the lowest concentration of free Ag(+) , implying that free Ag(+) cannot be neglected in explaining the toxicity of nAg colloids. Furthermore, the contribution of free Ag(+) to the toxicity of nAg colloids for R. subcapitata was the highest but for D. rerio the lowest, implying that the organisms tested have different accumulation abilities for Ag(+) or nAg particles.
SummaryA general and facile one-pot protocol for the preparation of a broad range of alkyl and aryl isothiocyanates has been developed from their corresponding primary amines under aqueous conditions. This synthetic process involves an in situ generation of a dithiocarbamate salt from the amine substrate by reacting with CS2 followed by elimination to form the isothiocyanate product with cyanuric acid as the desulfurylation reagent. The choice of solvent is of decisive importance for the successful formation of the dithiocarbamate salt particularly for highly electron-deficient substrates. This novel and economical method is suitable for scale-up activities.
Our findings provide initial evidence for the involvement of the epigenetic alterations of DAT1 in modulating the response to MPH treatment in ADHD, primarily on oppositional and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms.
