This study investigates several factors that have not been specified in the standard for dynamic stiffness, compressibility, and long-term deformation; these factors can be used to evaluate the acoustic and physical performances of resilient materials. The study is intended to provide basic data for deriving the factors that need to be additionally reviewed through the standards. Since magnitude of dynamic stiffness changes with an increase in loading time, it is necessary to examine the setting of the loading time for a load plate under test conditions. Samples of size 300×300 mm, rather than 200×200 mm, yielded more reliable results for compressibility measurement. Since the test to infer long-term deformation of resilient materials after a period of 10 years in some samples showed variation characteristics different from those specified in the standards, it is recommended that the test method should be reviewed through ongoing research.
Floor impact sound in high-rise apartment building became one of social problems. A lot of civil complaints on floor impact sound occur continuously and the number of disputes between neighbors in small and aged apartment buildings is increasing. Interests on heavy-weight impact sound pressure level measurement and evaluation method is increased. Previous study reported that heavy-weight impact sound level was changed by the sound field condition of receiving reverberation chamber. In this study, heavy-weight impact sound pressure level change by the receiving sound field condition was measured in standard test facility and mock-up test room. These two experimental conditions were designed to simulate averaged living room of common apartment units. By the change of sound absorption power in receiving room, heavy-weight impact sound pressure level in most of frequency bands were changed in standard test facility and mock-up room. Normalized maximum sound pressure level regulated in ISO 16032 showed wider range of heavy/soft impact sound pressure level. Heavy/soft impact sound pressure level change was became smaller by the application of standardized maximum sound pressure level and ISO/CD 10140-3 Amd 2 method. In the case of standardized maximum sound pressure level, absolute sound pressure level changed. From these results, receiving sound field correction method regulated in ISO/CD 10140-3 Amd 2 is needed for the precision measurement and evaluation of heavy-weight impact sound.
Primarily used for domestic buildings as a sound absorber are glass wool, rock wool, etc. These absorbers as well as waste absorber created by recycling wastes, PP+PET fiber absorber made from polypropylene and polyester, wood wool board bonded with finely sliced roots of trees and foamed aluminum absorber are recyclable eco-friendly absorbers that are constantly being developed. In this study, we compared the sound absorption performance of currently used absorbers and eco-friendly building absorbers. As a result, the NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) was found to be 0.85 for glass wool, 0.95 for rock wool, and 0.70 for polyester, 0.65 for waste absorber, 0.75 for PET+ PP fiber absorber, 0.40 for wood wool board, and 0.75 for foamed aluminum absorber. Based on the results of these absorption coefficients, we expect the usability of the absorbers continues to increase as future eco-friendly building absorbers.
The floor impact sound is a structure-borne sound that is propagated not only to the apartment directly below but also to various other locations. This study identifies how much floor impact sound, which is perceived as a problem for the whole apartment building rather than a problem for just the upper and lower floors, is propagated to surrounding apartments. Further, this study derives various variables for the cause of noise occurring in the apartment building. The measurement results indicate that most of the energy (38–54%) is propagated to the lower floor, which is an apartment directly underneath, for the noise produced when the floor slab is excited. Furthermore, it is found that the noise is propagated simultaneously to the apartments on the upper floor, as well as to the left and right sides.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
