Although the expression sustainable development is widely used we do not have a single concept that defines it, what we have in mind is that sustainable development involves the use of resources, but that involves economic growth, environmental preservation and social welfare. The present work was carried out with the elementary school teachers of the School Unit Joel Mendes Teresina-PI and had as objective to analyze the environmental perception of the teachers and to observe their relationship with the sustainable development, for that it was applied questionnaires containing subjective and objective questions, with nine teachers of the 18 that act in the school. We noticed that there was a contradiction in the answers obtained by the teachers, we observed that 71% are more or less, little or nothing informed about the subject. However, the 21% of teachers have a good knowledge about sustainable development and usually use interdisciplinarity with this theme in their classes using everyday examples.
