There are about one million autistic children in Indonesia. Based on statistics, one out of sixty-eight children are born with autism worldwide. Getting dressed can be more challenging, based on the fact that 83 percent of children with autism have problems with theirmotor skills, especially inputting their clothes on independently. This study presents the main aspects involved in designing fashion clothing specifically created to find solutions to help children with autism in brand Kiddie Pal. Kiddie Pal runs a business based on socially responsible business practices where it adopts and implements business practices aimed at improving the quality children with autism. The research methodology utilized a qualitative method through in-depth interviews and observations using a sample collection for autistic children from Kiddie Pal and gathered inputs from experts. Clothes specially designed for children with autism should offer the easiest way to wear, feel comfortable, be safe, and feel self-reliant. In accordance with the desire to have an autistic viewpoint, the clothes are expected to offer psychological benefits and help improve the organization of sensory and social integration with the community. Using cotton material and seamless construction, selected water-based prints, no tags, less trimmings, flexible front and back clothing pieces, and a smart opening solution are answers to the problems faced by autistic children in their dressing. The design factors have to consider the motoric limitations, both psychological and social. In addition, a purpose of this study was to establish guideline recommendations for creating and designing clothing for children with autism that can support the sustainable development.
Clothes not only function as a cover for the body, but also understood as a metaphor for power and authority. This paper examines the discourse about the role of the artwork of the Indonesian traditional textile art and costume shown as embodied dependencies during the Dutch colonialism in 17 th -19th century and how it changed today's society in Indonesia. This paper focus on the art history for the material culture and evidence of dependencies in the costumes and textile art Indonesia during the Dutch colonialism and are able in the wider form to correct the widespread in the academic evaluation between written and non-written traditions. The research method applied through empirical research in literature review, using theoretical framework from the art history literature, conceptually and methodologically existing slavery and labor history research. Dutch dominant for a long time and the influence of the population, the clothing in Indonesia is more than just marking differences and similarities in indigenous communities. These clothes give the media to express certain attitudes towards the influences from foreign cultural and political influences. Comprehensive analysis of the interaction of culture given the costumes, textile, attitudes, behavior, gender, norms of appropriateness norms to understand Indonesia's ever-changing social views.
Budaya Peranakan merupakan budaya yang unik karena merupakan perpaduan antara budaya Cina dan budaya lokal Indonesia. Tujuan dari penelitian dan penciptaan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kesadaran generasi muda terhadap akulturasi budaya Indonesia, salah satunya adalah budaya Peranakan. Penelitian ini menyoroti cerita opera Wayang Potehi sebagai inspirasi simbolik utama dalam penciptaan koleksi pakaian yang menggabungkan aspek budaya dan desain “ready to wear” yang kontemporer. Wayang Potehi adalah pertunjukan boneka yang berasal dari Fujian Cina, yang jenis dan ceritanya mirip dengan opera Beijing. Kebudayaan Peranakan paling banyak ada di sepanjang pesisir utara Jawa. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan adalah melalui metode kualitatif, interview, observasi ke daerah yang banyak mendapatkan pengaruh dari Budaya Peranakan dan melalui literatur budaya dan seni. Penciptaan produk dituangkan dengan menggunakan tehnik cetak digital pada kain dan menambahkan tehnik bordir pada siluet pakaian yang berpedoman pada kostum Wayang Potehi. Warna dan simbol setiap detail yang diambil dalam inspirasi ini sangat menunjukan akulturasi antara budaya Cina dan lokal. Simbol dari setiap detail yang ada pada inspirasi ini sangat penting dan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan, minat dan rasa menghargai pada kebudayaan Indonesia terutama untuk para generasi muda sebagai konsumen dari koleksi ini.
