A agricultura familiar na Região da Campanha contrasta com a agricultura convencional, e é impulsionada tanto pelas questões ambientais, quanto pela geração de emprego e renda. O objetivo geral do trabalho foi identificar de que forma as propriedades rurais são geridas pelos agricultores familiares do Assentamento do Upacaraí no município de Dom Pedrito-RS, em relação as questões ambientais. A análise das informações coletadas foi realizada a partir das transcrições das entrevistas, das anotações, registros fotográficos e de observações realizadas nos momentos vivenciados nas propriedades junto aos agricultores. Com o objetivo de validar matematicamente as informações coletadas, foi utilizado a Análise do Componente Principal (ACP). Foram entrevistados nove agricultores residentes no Assentamento Upacaraí. Foi gerado um diagrama de ordenação por componentes principais, onde foi possível observar que formaram-se três grupos distintos de agricultores familiares, sendo dois grupos isolados formados por um único agricultor, caso do agricultor 2, que relativamente não leva em consideração questões produtivas nem ambientais, e agricultor 6 que considera relevante a produção mas pouco importante as questões ambientais. O terceiro grupo foi formado pelos demais agricultores, todos preocupados com a gestão ambiental, mas divergem entre si quanto as questões produtivas.
