O artigo parte da verificação de um crescente processo de implementação de ensino realizado de forma remota na educação de jovens e adultos (EJA), sem que se garanta de que o processo educacional seja realizado em respeito às especificidades de seus estudantes e professores. Por meio de análises embasadas em teorias da decolonialidade associadas à etnomatemática, podemos verificar que este processo tem significado a acelerada invisibilização da EJA, culminando, muitas vezes em novos distanciamentos destes estudantes do processo educacional formal. Estas e outras problemáticas estão presentes nos relatos obtidos juntos aos docentes e demais profissionais que atuam na EJA, e também junto aos próprios estudantes, como nos é possível verificar nos dados provenientes de pesquisa desenvolvida pelo Fórum EJA Rio, e em pesquisa realizada junto a grupos formados em aplicativos comunicacionais. Dentre os resultados, podemos perceber que as dificuldades de adaptação vivenciadas pelos estudantes da EJA em relação às novas formas das práticas pedagógicas, têm interferido diretamente no seu acompanhamento dessas atividades, devido, em especial, aos contextos de grande desigualdade social e vulnerabilidade em que vivem.
O artigo apresenta um breve relato da organização e implementação do curso de formação de professores de matemática, que teve como foco a Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA). Contando com o apoio da Sociedade Brasileira de Educação Matemática, foi desenvolvido de forma remota devido ao distanciamento imposto pela Covid-19. O curso focou alguns dos principais pontos relacionados a esta modalidade, tais como os saberes e fazeres de seus estudantes, além dos currículos e das práticas pedagógicas matemáticas condizentes com as especificidades destes aprendentes. Dentre os resultados observados, a percepção por parte dos participantes de que a EJA é uma modalidade que requer discussões específicas, alinhada aos anseios de seus estudantes, especialmente relacionadas às práticas na sala de aula de matemática, de tal forma que haja uma maior inclusão destes indivíduos e a percepção de que os conhecimentos desta área são imprescindíveis para a sua participação crítica e autônoma em nossa sociedade.
Na presente produção analisamos a importância da escuta e da valorização dos saberes e conhecimentos dos jovens, adultos e idosos e como isso pode contribuir para a formação dos professores que atuam na EJA. Destacamos que a construção de práticas curriculares para a EJA deve levar em consideração as narrativas desses estudantes, e devem estar mais próximas de suas realidades. Por meio da apresentação de fragmentos das narrativas de João e de Dona Anita, ressaltamos a importância da promoção de espaços propícios ao aparecimento da palavra falada, do diálogo e da escuta atenta freireanos. João apresenta uma matemática ligada aos saberes do seu trabalho, e outra, ligada à sua vida de estudante. Dona Anita nos conta sobre sua vida atravessada pelas questões de gênero, destacando ter conhecido as letras no trânsito entre sua casa e o trabalho. Os resultados reiteram a ideia freireana de que esses sujeitos chegam à escola com saberes construídos em suas experiências, não sendo, portanto, caixas vazias ou sujeitos analfabetos. Concluímos reforçando a atualidade do pensamento de Paulo Freire, sobretudo quanto ao diálogo para a construção de uma educação crítica, democrática e libertadora.
