Introdução: O cobre (Cu) é um elemento presente naturalmente nos solos e essencial para o desenvolvimento das plantas. Entretanto, estando presente em quantidades excessivas no solo, pela intervenção humana, é capaz de gerar o efeito contrário, sendo extremamente prejudicial a manutenção da vida. Objetivo: Assim, este trabalho tem como objetivo a sistematização de dados relacionados a contaminação de Cu em solos brasileiros, com enfoque para o Igeo, a fim de estabelecer o estado atual do conhecimento e contribuir como material de pesquisa a futuros estudos relacionados ao tema. Material e métodos: Foram selecionadas 38 publicações encontradas em periódicos científicos de estudos referentes a contaminação por Cu em solos brasileiros. Resultados: As pesquisas selecionadas para esta revisão apontaram que a contaminação por Cu em solo derivada de aplicação de fungicida cúprico, rejeitos de mineração e disposição de resíduos orgânicos em solos agricultáveis, são responsáveis por Igeo de moderado a alto, elevando o potencial de contaminação do solo e prejudicando a microbiota e o desenvolvimento de cultivares, podendo a curto ou longo prazo, diminuir a produtividade e a vida útil de áreas utilizadas para cultivo e atividades agrícolas. Os maiores teores de Cu total e disponível também estão relacionados às atividades citadas, com destaque para a atividade de mineração e aplicação de fungicidas cúpricos. Estudos realizados em áreas de rejeito de mineração apontam para valores médios de Cu total de 2058,26 mg kg-1, enquanto que a média de teor total de Cu para áreas com aplicação de fungicida cúprico foi de 273,27 mg kg-1. Conclusão: Assim, conclui-se que os principais estudos relacionados à contaminação por Cu em solos brasileiros estão relacionados a aplicação de fungicidas cúpricos em áreas de plantio de videiras, em Santa Catarina e no Rio Grande do Sul e à aplicação de resíduos orgânicos, com destaque para dejetos suínos, em solos agricultáveis. Os maiores valores médios de teor total de Cu e Igeo em solo são provenientes de rejeito de mineração de Cu. O Igeo de solos com aplicação de fungicida cúprico e resíduo orgânico podem atingir nível moderado a alto, enquanto se destacam pelo elevado potencial de contaminação.
